Cape Cod Fishing Report – December 2, 2021

Freshwater fishing is the main attraction as we head into the first week of December.

Saltwater fishing reports have stopped coming in, but stripers can be found in the estuaries and salt ponds with some perseverance. All the tackle shops I spoke with have stopped carrying green crabs and it’s been quiet in terms of tog reports. But despite the overall shortage of reports, it felt like the fall run for tog and albies was longer than usual because water temps were steady.

Jeff at Canal Bait and Tackle in Sagamore says fishing is slow, but there are some anglers catching mackerel on Sabiki rigs at the east end of the Canal.

Kagan at Red Top Sporting Goods in Buzzards Bay says there are a few straggler bass in the Canal, but nothing of size. Trout fishing at Peters Pond has been pretty good in the evening and bass fishing has been good with shiners and worms.

Amy at Sports Port Bait & Tackle in Hyannis says saltwater fishing is slow, but the night bite has been good for brown trout and largemouth bass.

Cape Cod Forecast

Freshwater is the best bet heading into the weekend. Many of the local ponds were stocked with trout in late September and early October. Shiners are always a good option and many of my coworkers swear by Thomas Lures Rough Rider (1/5 ounce in gold). For largemouth, target the sharpest drop-offs with bait on them. Most largemouth hunker down on the bottom in cover or suspend over points and humps.
